From My Home to Yours
Autumn
is the season we celebrate Thanksgiving. While a
bountiful harvest was certainly reason enough for
those early settlers to establish an annual tradition
of appreciation, I can't help but think that
crisp, clear days, a kaleidoscope of brilliant fall
colors and the presence of family and friends were
all part of it too.
Cultivating an active sense of gratitude is a noble
virtue, but it's also good for our health.
In fact, a recent study showed that participants
who kept thankfulness journals on a weekly basis
experienced positive results (Emmons & McCullough,
2003). They exercised regularly, were sick less often
and found themselves more optimistic. Surely, gratitude
is the foundation of happiness.
So what would be your first entry in such a journal?
As for me, family and friends would top the list.
I also delight in my favorite place to enjoy these
wonderful people—my home. And because I know
you're just as passionate about your own castle,
you'll love “Family Central” (page
24). We'll show you how remodeling the kitchen
in your house can change the way you cook, eat and
interact with your loved ones.
You'll be drawn inside when the sun sets
early by our cozy ideas for “In-the-Mood Lighting” (page
5). I daresay my new energy-efficient dimmer switches
have added a healthy glow to my lifestyle and relationships.
And “Nature's Color Palette” (page
30) offers a sneak peak of the hottest color choices
for fall.
So settle into your favorite chair, sip a fresh
brew of tea (learn to make the perfect cup on
page 32) and immerse yourself in this issue for wonderful
new ways to enjoy your home.
You'll be thankful you did.
