It’s hot and your kids are home. Send them to the backyard and test out a few of these water games!
From Disney’s Family Fun - Splash Volleyball. Use a kiddie pool as the net and a soaked sponge as your ball. Allow them to volley the soaked sponge back and forth until it’s missed. The player must then enter the pool to retrieve the sponge and the first team to 10 points wins!
Also from Disney’s Family Fun - try Splash and Score! A team of throwers tries to land water balloons into a bucket that is being protected by a batter. Using a plastic bat he must defend his bucket and prevent water balloons from entering. The kids will be soaked. Check out the rest of the rules here.
This game is from Ministry To Children - Wet Sponge Over and Under Relay. Form two teams. Each team makes a line. There is a bucket in front of the first player and a jar behind the last player. The first player fills the sponge and with two hands lifts it over his/her head to the next player. The next player takes the sponge and hands it back under their legs. Continue to hand it back over and under until you reach the last player, who squeezes it in the jar. Then he/she runs towards the front of the line to fill the sponge again and pass it. The first team to fill the jar to overflowing wins.
This fantastic water fight comes from How Does She? We love the personalized spray bottles – each can be bought for about $1 at any Walmart or craft store. The paint pen is adorable and they’ll hold so much more water than a squirt gun. Now imagine playing freeze tag using a squirt bottle; when a player is hit they are frozen and only those “not it” can unfreeze them. Precious.
From Legendary Party Ideas - Slippery Watermelon Pool Relay. This is a great way to tire out teens in a pool! Grease up a watermelon using petroleum jelly, baby oil or shortening then drop it to the center of the pool. Teams line up on either side of the pool and race to the center and attempt to move the watermelon across the pool to the opposing team’s side wall. They may move it any way they choose, but it is a foul if they lift the watermelon out of the water. When fouled, the offending team team must go back to their wall and start over. For the rest of the rules, check out their post!
