Solar Energy is Abundant
The earth receives about 1,366 watts of direct solar radiation per square meter. That’s an incredible amount of energy. The installation of solar panels in the Saharan Desert alone could power all of Europe and North Africa. It has been estimated that the total surface area required to power the entire world is around 366,375 square kilometers, roughly 10,000 kilometers less than the size of Japan. This area would be spread amongst non-inhabited areas, such as deserts and ice masses.
