Uncover Good Top Soil
Not all soils are conducive to healthy growth. Discover the benefits of healthy growth with the use of good topsoil. Before beginning a new lawn, research different types of topsoil to determine which is ideal for growing a beautiful lawn in your area.
Visit potential topsoil suppliers in your area to ensure the quality of their soil. Before deciding, research where the topsoil originated, to ensure it doesn’t come from areas that are weed or disease infested. If the supplier mixes the topsoil themselves, ask what composition is in it. Avoid soils that were exposed to toxic chemicals. Your top soil should look like healthy, loose soil, free from debris. Its texture shouldn’t be rocky or sandy, and it shouldn’t be compacted like modeling clay either.
If you plan on combining new topsoil with existing topsoil, make sure the soils have the same texture. But if the existing topsoil is already bad or has carried disease-ridden plants, consult with a professional landscaper, such as The Grounds Guys®, before buying new topsoil.
Measure your lawn and order enough topsoil to cover your lawn to a depth of three to six inches. Usually, three cubic yards can cover 1000 square feet to a depth of one inch. If you need help determining how much topsoil to use, consult with your supplier or a landscape professional.
