Find Out if You Have a Silent Toilet Leak
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, a leaky toilet can waste about 200 gallons of water a day. Follow this advice from Mr. Rooter Plumbing to locate silent toilet leaks:
- First, you should put an old towel around the base of your toilet in case you have a leak. (The dye you will use to do the test can stain your flooring.)
- Then you need to put several drops of dark food coloring into the toilet tank.
If the dye appears in the bowl, you have a toilet leak. You will need to replace the flapper at the bottom of the tank, or you will need to adjust or replace the fill valve. Home repair stores carry these parts. If you aren’t a do-it-yourselfer, give your Mr. Rooter Plumbing a call.
